The St. Andrew's-Sewanee Natural Resource Assessment and Campus Master Plan Impact Report was the 7th Grade Science/Tech final project from the 2019 spring semester. This place-based, collaborative, and interdisciplinary project was focused on engaging students in doing "real world in the real world" by having them work in teams to assess the natural resources on the 550 acre St. Andrew's-Sewanee School campus, analyze the potential environmental impacts of the Campus Master Plan on those resources, and then develop recommendations for the school to consider moving forward. Each section of 7th graders gave a formal oral presentation during exam week about the results of their study to teachers, Board of Trustees members, and school administrations. The Tech teacher, Dr. Viva Reynolds, and I developed and executed the project over an approximately 5 week period, and the Theater teacher helped us prepare the students for the presentations during the final week of school. In this session, we will discuss the set up and execution of the project, as well as delve into successes, challenges, and lessons learned in regards to the design, implementation, and assessment of substantive, collaborative, final project such as this one.
