The session introduces participants to the periodic table through an interactive activity and discussions of the history of the periodic table, from the exploration of how ancient cultures viewed elements to modern scientific conceptions. Students use mathematical reasoning and computation to create a scale model. Arguably, many students may see learning the periodic table as facts and memorization. We incorporated cultural perspectives in the lesson to engage students in meaningful ways to see, feel, and experience the cross-curricular and real-world connections of the periodic table.
